Good stuff for guys at BackCountry

by Shea Homes Colorado on December 30, 2015

Ok, let’s get the disclaimers out of the way. BackCountry by Shea Homes is wonderful for both genders. And of course, men and women like plenty of the same things. But are there aspects to BackCountry that men seem particularly to like? Definitely.

Hop onto one of BackCountry’s trails and you’ll probably run into several of the community’s very active bikers. The in-neighborhood trails connect to trails within the South Rim, the community’s private wilderness of 467 acres, and then to 26 miles of challenging trails within the greater acres of the Backcountry Wilderness Area. Bikers never get bored here. As resident Craig Wilmes says, the trail systems “are very well-maintained and offer various degrees of difficulty from ‘not-too-bad’ to ‘that was really hard.’” An avid biker, Craig hosted a community bike clinic in August and encourages fellow bikers to join him and a group of fellow riders each Saturday during seasonable months.

Shea Homes Colorado Acquires The Canyons in Castle Pines

by Shea Homes Colorado on December 29, 2015

Shea Homes Colorado, the master developer of communities such as Highlands Ranch, Reunion and Stepping Stone, announced its purchase of 1,270 acres in The Canyons, located east of I-25 in the City of Castle Pines, between the Hess Road and Happy Canyon Road interchanges. The company will oversee the development of a new master-planned residential community, which, at build-out, will feature 2,000 single and multi-family homes from a variety of builders. Shea Homes, which expects to invest $75,000,000 in the community over the next four years, worked with Denver-based Oread Capital & Development in purchasing the land from the Alpert family through North Canyons, LLLP, which retains ownership of the balance of the 3,343-acre project.

When completed, The Canyons will nearly double the size of the City of Castle Pines.  With a vision of active, outdoor lifestyles and environmental stewardship, the community’s plans call for more than half of The Canyons to be dedicated to parks and open space, with 49 acres for public schools and 20 acres for civic uses, as well as areas for retail, restaurants and office space.

When Christmas is a wrap, where do you put it?

by Shea Homes Colorado on December 21, 2015

When it comes to the holidays—like so many things in life—the build-up is so much more fun than the take-down. Whether you celebrate Christmas or Hanukkah at your Shea home, chances are there’s some stowing away in your immediate future. Below are a few ideas to help streamline the process and make next year’s holiday set-up even easier. Cue the holiday music and eggnog one last time.

Holiday lights are the nemesis of many otherwise happy revelers. It seems as if they spend their off-season wriggling themselves into nasty knots. The solution? Wrap them neatly around sheets of cardboard before tucking them away.  Or around a coffee can, poking the plug into the can through an ‘X’ cut into the plastic top. When it comes to those heavy-duty exterior holiday lights, keep them on a portable hose reel. The wheels and handle make them easy to maneuver around the yard while you decorate.

Ornaments can be especially fragile (and chock-full of priceless memories), so storage that prevents jostling is crucial. Try an egg carton or apple box for your smaller round ornaments. Slip the larger flat ornaments into your stockings.

Real Christmas trees are (mercifully) tossed, but artificial trees occupy space in your basement all year long. Familyhandyman.com suggests sliding them neatly into sleek, 8” diameter concrete form tubes. So smart.
