5 Design Trends to Try in 2019

by Shea Homes Arizona on December 14, 2018

Well that didn’t take long, did it? 2018 is almost one for the books, which means it’s time to take a look forward at the design trends 2019 will bring with it. Whether you’re buying a new home or revamping the home you’ve loved for years, here are five of the focal points designers will be switching up in the coming year. We’ve peeked into the newest Shea Signature™ community, Azure, to see these trends in action.

Flowers and Other Natural Elements
Succulents had their time in the spotlight in 2018, but 2019 brings with it more color and more variety. Flowers and floral patterns occupy a design Goldilocks-zone between the abstract and concrete and can add fun splashes of color and life to your home; look at how they’re used to brighten these lower level living spaces. Look to use exaggerated proportions and contrasting colors to emphasize the modern twist on this classic staple.

Artisanal Fixtures
In keeping with the naturalistic theme, decorators are looking towards locally made, artistic lighting fixtures to add interest to the most-used spaces in homes. Vintage elements, in particular, will be making a comeback, like sconces and pendants. Buying from local artisans not only supports your local economy but will give you a unique piece of culture that is sure to be a talking point at your next get-together.

Bolder Backsplashes
Light fixtures aren’t the only way to punch up the details in your kitchen; add some interest and texture with a new backsplash. Go bold with a bright color or uniquely local recycled materials (another big trend to keep an eye on next year), or opt for something a little more subtle, like the textured tile you see here. It’s a simple change that can take your kitchen from ‘bleh’ to ‘beautiful’.

Light Wooden Floors
Something just feels right about this light wooden floor. Whether you choose birch, light oak, or anything else that strikes your fancy, these floors find a perfect balance: modern, yet classic; casual, yet luxurious; open, yet cozy. With the extra light these floors reflect, they add an airy feel to any home that can drastically improve the mood of a space without sacrificing comfort.

Eco-friendly
Not a new trend by any means, but eco-friendly design will take its rightful place in the driver’s seat in 2019. If it’s both beautiful and easier on the planet, it’s in. That could be anything from choosing recycled materials wherever you can to full-out eco-centered design, like at Azure. Each residence includes small essentials like LED lighting and tankless water heaters, all the way to a highly efficient sealed attic system, designed with blown cellulose, a product with around 85% recycled content, applied to the underside of the roof deck. This can lessen the summertime heat gain on air ducts, in an effort to reduce energy costs and increase homeowner comfort. Low-E windows let in light without the unwanted heat – in fact, the window and door systems were designed to reduce radiant heat entering the home by up to 75%. All of us at Shea Homes® are proud to build homes that help sustain our natural environment.

October Events Around PhoenixIt might not feel like it yet, but autumn is officially here! With October right around the corner, and cooler temperatures coming with it, the Valley will be filled to the brim with fun fall events, so get the family, grab your costumes, get outside, and drink up any crisp autumn weather that may come your way. We at Shea Homes® have put together a list of our favorite events happening around each of our communities:

Recker Pointe – Vertuccio Farms Annual Fall Festival & Corn Maze (Oct. 1- Nov. 4)

Vertuccio Farms is celebrating 20 years of family fun, and they’re going all out this year! In addition to the usual top-notch seven-acre corn maze, you’ll find mini-golf, mule rides, a zip line, duck races, pumpkin bowling, and of course, the chance to pick out your own pumpkin to take home – and that’s just getting started. If you’ve never been to Vertuccio Farms you owe it to yourself to take the family to their 20th-anniversary celebration! Find out more here.

Gateway Quarter – Schnepf Farms Pumpkin and Chili Party (Oct. 4-28)

Pumpkins and chili? What could get you in the fall spirit faster?! Voted by Phoenix Magazine as the best fall family event, there’s so much to see and do at Shnepf Farms. Wander through the two different corn mazes, cheer on your favorite hog at the pig races, roast marshmallows around a bonfire, and close the night out with some fireworks! Find out more here.

Inspire at Estrella – Fall Festival (Oct. 20)

Take a trip out onto the field at the Goodyear Ballpark for tons of fall fun, with train rides, pumpkin patches, inflatables, a costume contest, trick-or-treating, photo station, and arts and crafts activities. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, beware—the new Trick-or-Treat Village will feature over a quarter-million pieces of candy! Find out more here.

Carino Villas – Chandler Halloween Spooktacular (Oct. 26)

Gather your lil’ ghosts and goblins and trick-or-treat your way through the Chandler Halloween Spooktacular. Come dressed in your best costume and enjoy a family night of frightful fun! Activities include ghoulish games, haunted house, photo opportunities, arts and crafts, and a costume contest. Find out more here.

24 North & Vantage – Salt River Fields Balloon Spooktacular (Oct. 26 & 27)

You won’t want to miss this high-flying festival. While over 20 hot air balloons dot the sky, the kids can get their share of the over 4,000 pounds of candy while parents enjoy live music and food truck. Brave the haunted Spooky trail, and if you have any courage left, ride one of the tethered hot air balloons. Mix in some carnival games, costume contests, and fireworks, and you’re in for a heart-pounding night of spooky fun. Find out more here.

Vallarta at Verrado – 76th Annual Halloween Carnival (Oct. 27)

For more than 75 years, the Buckeye Halloween Carnival has brought local non-profits together to host autumn themed carnival games and activities. So come out for some old-fashioned family fun that supports great local causes. Find out more here.

Cantilena – Halloween Monster Bash (Oct. 27)

They did the Bash, they did the Monster Bash… Get your spookiest costumes together, practice your Thriller dance, and come join the monstrous parade at Peoria Sports Complex. When the parade’s over, go trick-or-treating; make monster themed arts-and-crafts; climb the death-defying rock wall; and enjoy the live entertainment.
