Waterline Homeowners Can Now Commute By Ferry

by Shea Homes Northern California on January 23, 2019

The first homeowners at our Waterline on the Bay community are expected to move in late in February and in early March 2019, and Shea Homes® is excited to announce that – as of this month – they will be able to take the new Richmond Ferry to work!
Richmond Ferry Launch Event

Ferry service from the new Richmond Terminal to San Francisco began on January 10th. A wonderful launch celebration was had to celebrate the new Terminal and route. Free, short trips around the harbor were provided, live music was available to listen to, and real-life “Rosies” coordinated through the nearby Rosie The Riveter/World War II Homefront National Historical Park were available to meet! The turnout (pictured above) was great, and many Richmond residents came out to enjoy the festivities.

If you’ve never commuted by ferry, you’re in for a treat. All of the vessels offer comfortable seating, snack bars with beverage service, complimentary WiFi, restrooms, and are ADA accessible. Oh, there are also some pretty nice views. How long is the ride you ask? Transit time between Richmond and San Francisco is just 35 minutes!

2019 has arrived, and you’ve laid out all your New Year’s resolutions that will launch you into a happier, healthier year. But have you put together any New Year’s resolutions for your home? With plenty of research on the impact your environment has on your well-being, one of the best things you can do to support all your personal resolutions is to make sure your home is just as happy as you are. We’ve put together a list of four New Year’s Home Resolutions to get you off on the right foot.

Streamline and Minimize
Streamline and MinimizeA year is a lot of time to gather junk. It’s swallowing that one kitchen drawer, overtaking your nightstand, and launching a quiet coup d’état in the corners of your closet. So, before you find yourself on an episode of Hoarders, make the choice to pare down everything that’s cohabiting with you. Clothes, decorations, and knick-knacks that you use every once in a while, can be donated to make a larger impact on someone else’s life while leaving you more time and space to enjoy the items that actually bring you joy. And somehow the process of decluttering your home seems to declutter your mind – seems like a win-win to start the year, right? Plus, if you’re planning to move into a new Shea Home soon, eliminating miscellaneous items will make the move that much simpler.

Add Some Florals
Add FloralsAfter you’ve purged your home of the clutter, you may find some surfaces like desks and counters suddenly looking barren. It’s the perfect time for a trip to your local nursery! The simple addition of some flowers and plants to your favorite rooms can have a surprisingly dramatic effect on the mood of a space. And as far as 2019 design trends go, it’s one of the most affordable upgrades you can do. Not only will plants liven up your living spaces, but their air purifying qualities could do your lungs a favor too.

Reduce Your Carbon Footprint

At Shea Homes®, we work to keep our new homes energy efficient from the start, which is why our ENERGY STAR® certified homes use up to 20-30% less energy than other non-certified homes. Through a combination of complete thermal enclosure systems, high-efficiency ventilation, comprehensive water management systems, and energy-efficient appliances and lighting, together families that have purchased ENERGY STAR labeled homes tend to save more each year on utility bills. But there’s always more you can do! Take your mother’s advice and turn off the lights whenever you leave a room; turn your water heater down a few degrees and wash your clothes in cold water. Small changes can lead to big savings, and this is one resolution that helps everyone on the planet.

A Family DIY
Foster Family RelationshipsIf fostering your closest relationships is one of your resolutions, this is a great way to bring your family together. Whether it’s starting a garden in the backyard, building the game room of your kids’ dreams, or fresh paint in the bedrooms, a family project is a bonding experience that will leave everyone with new skills and a renewed appreciation for your home.
