Get Social
Now that the excesses of the holidays are over, many of us shift into self-improvement mode. It could be the possibilities represented by the dawning of a New Year. (Or maybe it’s our tight pants!) Either way, now is the time to set our New Year’s resolutions. Healthy eating and more exercise usually top the list. Home improvement is right up there too. As you take a look at the coming year with a fresh set of eyes, here are a few New Year’s resolutions for your home:

Lose Weight

Put your house on a diet by getting rid of the junk! If you haven’t yet read Marie Kondo’s best-selling de-cluttering book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing, order it now. The best $10 investment you can make, and your home will thank you for it. The guiding principle of Kondo’s autonomous Kon Mari method? Keep only that which brings you joy. Simple, yet life-changing.

Get Healthy

What better way to get healthy than adding a garden or planting a fruit tree? Make sure you involve the kids – they’re more likely to eat it if they grow it! Start small and see what happens. A window box filled with fresh herbs is a fun and easy way to give your green thumb a test run. And remember – indoor plants don’t just look great. They purify the air too.

Make Safety a Priority

Ensure your family’s safety by making sure your home is equipped with functioning smoke detectors, a carbon monoxide detector and a radon detector (available at most hardware stores for under $20). Check your door and window locks and pool fencing and gate to make sure everything is in good working order.

Freshen Up

Take advantage of all the great January “white sales” and replace your dingy old blankets, bedspreads, sheets, and towels and new ones. While you’re at it, give your home a deep clean so it really sparkles. Who says you have to wait for spring to get fresh?

Get Social

Now that you’ve gotten a fresh, clean, de-cluttered house, call up your friends and do a little entertaining! Better yet, have your neighbors over for coffee, then hop on your cruisers for a bike ride around the neighborhood. Snap a few pics and post on social media, just to show your friends across the country how truly good it is to enjoy winter in Arizona! And if you know anyone looking for a new home in one of the best communities in the country, invite them to check out Shea Homes Arizona’s newest community, Ambition at Eastmark.
