How to bring autumn indoors.

It’s gorgeous out there, isn’t it? Autumn’s shorter, cooler days are working their magic, turning ash trees scarlet, maples orange, and aspens a shimmering gold. At our Shea Homes® communities, walks on the trails and playdates in the park are truly a feast for the senses these days. So maybe it’s worth considering how to bring some of that wonderful fall feeling inside your home, perhaps through autumn-fresh décor or seasonally inspired cooking.

On our Welcome Fall Pinterest board, you’ll find dozens of ideas for how to greet the season. Crafty types will want to explore this board, Easy Fall Decorating Projects. A few highlights: vases made from carved and painted gourds; a garland of dried corn, husks, and rope; a felt leaf-adorned pillow; and fresh apples used to anchor napkins and tablecloths.

More ideas are afoot at with these 50 Easy Fall Decorating Project board.  Add fall flavor to a tabletop or mantel with glass vases filled with nuts and wheat, and accented by rolled-up, coordinating scrapbooking paper.

Comfort foods make a comeback this time of year. Perusing these Fall Recipes from Cooking Light, you’ll find yourself wanting to cozy up with hearty Bacon and Butternut Pasta or French Onion and Apple Soup.  And how about finishing up with some Chocolate Pumpkin Cookies?

Our Welcome Fall Pinterest board can always be counted on for elegant decorating ideas. For your next dinner party, assemble this 25-Minute Fall Centerpiece. Not your typical pine cone display, this one boasts an eye-pleasing array of color and texture with a creative mix of succulents, pumpkins, votive candles, and jewel-toned fall veggies like radishes, kale, and eggplant. Another thought: wire together vibrant autumn leaves to make this garland for your fireplace mantel.

Among these 12 Ways to Add Harvest Décor, a team of designers suggest a cute and cozy sweater candle—as in wrap a candle in an old sweater, tie it, and tuck in a fall leaf. Voila, the perfect hostess gift. Another “illuminating” idea is a candleholder made from a rustic toolbox, laden with candles, pine cones, and clementines.

Or you can use these fall-friendly ideas, such as using wood bowls as accent pieces, displaying pillows and throws in deep accent colors, placing an umbrella stand by the door, and burning candles with the scents of cinnamon and warm apple pie, to bring autumn indoors.

Or of course, better yet, create your own homey fall scents—with tasty benefits. Try these recipes for Cinnamon Apple Pie (with cream cheese crust) or Apple Pie Bread Pudding.  Because who can ever eat too many apples this time of year?  Fall never tasted or looked so good.
