We all have traditions we love to enjoy with family and friends through the holiday season, and some years are ripe for adding a fun twist or an altogether brand new tradition. Whether you’re looking for something new or just beginning to form your family’s holiday customs, you’ve come to the right place.

Get your decorating on

Gingerbread houses are fun to decorate, and they always turn out unique—some are covered in candy, others are more simple; some are standing, others are, well, not… Have you ever made a gingerbread family to go along with your house? Click on the photo above for a recipe that just might add a new creative flare to your gingerbread decorating endeavors.

Take a festive treat to a neighbor

Whether it’s store bought candies or a plate of warm cookies, a small friendly gesture can go a long way to establishing the great neighborhood you’ve always dreamed of. We love these hot cocoa kits. Click on the photo for instructions for making your own!

Take to the kitchen

Not big into cooking but looking for an easy way to try your hand at a traditional holiday meal? Baked ham is the place to start. Not only are most hams pre-cooked (so no-one is getting sick from your cooking) but they are generally very hands off once in the oven. Check out this recipe for a tasty, traditional brown-sugar and pineapple glaze.

Plan a day to relax

Take a morning or even a whole day to rejuvenate and detox from the stresses of the holiday season. It may become your favorite tradition and will likely make all the other ones that much more enjoyable. Click the photo above for a few ideas to get you started.

Add a twist to a traditional outing

As you take your usual walk or drive through your neighborhood, add a little extra fun by doing a holiday scavenger hunt! See if you can be the first to spot all 25 or work together to find them all! You can even make a list of some of your favorite houses and then vote as a family on the best houses you see!
