Rooms of Hope: A Livermore Home Makeover

In January, our Shea Homes Northern California team was honored to be part of a Rooms of Hope dream room makeover project for a local Livermore child named Skylar.

Rooms of Hope creates fun and functional rooms that matter for children with a serious illness during a time when life is anything but predictable. Each child is paired up with an interior designer who listens to that child’s dreams and aspirations for their room, and together, they design a space that meets not only their immediate functional, storage, and medical needs, but also allows that child to begin the process of healing and lets them start dreaming about tomorrow.

“We were able to bring lunch to the 40 amazing volunteers donating their time and energy to this local cause,” says Arin Westendorf of Shea Homes.

This gift of a newly designed room goes on well beyond their amazing reveal of their dream space. While at home, this is their place of inspiration, healing and solace. In essence, they give back a little bit of control to sick children in the San Francisco Bay Area who often lose their say in daily activities, including going to school or having play dates because of their depressed immune systems and need for medical attention. Usually, they can no longer participate in sports or other extracurricular activities. Daily routines go from being “normal” to now being all about hospital visits or being at home while the rest of world moves forward without them.

Westendorf, who introduced Rooms of Hope to the Shea Homes team, went on to say “It’s so great to see an entire community come together, not just local businesses, but friends and families, too. Seeing everyone chip in to help this family was truly inspiring.”
