In January, our Shea Homes Northern California team was honored to be part of a Rooms of Hope dream room makeover project for a local Livermore child named Skylar.
Rooms of Hope creates fun and functional rooms that matter for children with a serious illness during a time when life is anything but predictable. Each child is paired up with an interior designer who listens to that child’s dreams and aspirations for their room, and together, they design a space that meets not only their immediate functional, storage, and medical needs, but also allows that child to begin the process of healing and lets them start dreaming about tomorrow. Recently Shea Homes of Charlotte had our Atherton Realtor Grand Opening for our brand new luxury home models, located in Weddington, NC. The two new models are unlike anything seen in the area before, and we wanted our grand opening to reflect that.
We quickly decided upon a photo booth, brass trio from the Union Symphony, Electrolux chefs cooking in our kitchens, Ballantyne Limo, and some golf carts driven by our Shea Custom team so our guests could get the luxury feel right off the bat! Our models are very unique and have some awesome features so we knew there would be lots of pictures taken, sent, and posted to social media that day.
Our event fell on September 29th and as many of you may know September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. The Levine Children’s Hospital has the Torrence E. Hemby Jr. Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Center which plays an important role in taking care of our Charlotte community. In order to incorporate the two into our event we landed on the hashtag #SheaHomesFightsCancer. We spread the word that for every picture posted to Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram from our event with the hashtag we’d donate $5 to the Levine Children’s Hospital’s Oncology Center.
We were overwhelmed by the response as over 50 people posted numerous photos, growing our donation amount to $1,000!
We’d like to personally thank everyone who participated. The weather certainly wasn’t on our side but we had a great event none the less! We look forward to tying our philanthropy into more of our events and giving you all a chance to be a part of it.
What’s better than a Catered Open House? A Catered Open House that Benefits Charity!
Shea Homes of Charlotte’s two Rowan County neighborhoods, Miller’s Grove and Castlebrooke Farms, hosted open houses last Saturday. Everyone was invited to tour the models and move-in ready homes in both neighborhoods while they enjoyed catered food.
While we were happy to feed our guests, we asked them to “pay it forward”. We encouraged anyone who wanted to join to bring sustainable food pantry items to donate to Rowan Helping Ministries. The charity group fights local hunger and will serve over 95,000 meals alone this year. In return, each person that brought an item to donate at our event was entered into a drawing for a chance to win two Charlotte Hornets tickets.
Shea Homes of Charlotte was thrilled with the results, we received an entire trunkload of food! (pictured above) Melissa Mullinix, the Builder Representative in both Castlebrooke Farms and Miller’s Grove, commented: “I was very impressed with the outpouring of donations to help feed local families in need. We love being part of Rowan County and were very happy to help raise awareness for this charity, while also getting the word out about our available homes.” Here at Shea Homes of Charlotte we can’t resist getting involved in charity and we were happy to blend an open house with a great cause!
