Ideas for Celebrating Thanksgiving Arizona-Style

by Shea Homes Arizona on November 19, 2016

Happy Thanksgiving
Order Take-out

Not in the mood to shop, cook, and tackle the dishes? Give thanks for the many Thanksgiving take-out options. Go for the complete meal or order sides a la carte from local fave, Lucy’s Healthy Marketplace. Other local food purveyors offering Turkey Day takeout are AJ’s, Safeway, Sprouts, Miracle Mile, La Grande Orange and Chompie’s.

Get Some Exercise

With turkey trots taking place from Phoenix to Mesa, and Anthem to Litchfield, it’s easy to get your run (or walk) done. Take it easy and complete a 1 mile course, or if you’re planning on an extra helping of pie, go for a 5K or 10K race. Complete turkey trot listing available here.

See a Parade

You can always tune in to the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Or if you want to get off the couch and enjoy some fresh air, pop over to Fountain Hills for the big Thanksgiving Day Parade (also called Parade De Los Cerros, or Parade of the Hills), now in its 20th year.

Go to the Movies

What better way to relax after a big meal than to kick back and recline in a dark theater? Popcorn optional. This year, a much anticipated family film will be opening at Harkins Theaters on Thanksgiving Day. Details here!

Host a Friendsgiving

Gather your friends and invite them over for Thanksgiving dinner – potluck style! Feel free to bend the “rules” and serve cocktails and tapas in lieu of the traditional spread. And if you need tips or wonder what the heck a Friendsgiving is, check out this step by step guide from Food Network.

Help Feed Others

Support St. Vincent de Paul’s efforts to provide a turkey dinner with all the trimmings by donating to the organization’s annual Turkey Tuesday turkey drive on November 22. Turkeys, side dishes, and monetary donations can be dropped off at any Bashas or Food City location.

Celebrate Halloween with these Fun Family Events

by Shea Homes Arizona on October 14, 2016

Halloween Pumpkins
Here there be monsters! Halloween is nearly upon us, and with it comes candy, costumes, and fun for the whole family. Here are a few of the top Halloween events taking place around the Valley this month!

  1. Chandler Halloween Spooktacular: Friday, October 28th, Dr. A.J. Chandler Park 5:30pm-8:30pm

This first event promises to be a fantastic activity for the whole family. There will be carnival games, an inflatable corn maze, and a haunted house. For the more creative ghouls and goblins, there will be costume contests in all different age categories, so be sure to look your spookiest! Bring trick-or-treat bags, as there will be candy galore.

  1. Macdonald’s Ranch Annual Pumpkin Festival: October 1st-31st

One of the best long-running fall events in the Valley! Head over to Macdonald’s ranch in Scottsdale, and hop on a hayride to go pick your pumpkins. On the way, get something to eat, visit the petting zoo, find your way through the hay bale maze, and more! There’s no better place for some classic fall fun this side of the Grand Canyon.

  1. Haunted Harbor at Lake UN-pleasant: October 21st, 6:30pm-10:00pm

Back for the third year running, the Haunted Harbor at Lake Pleasant Marina in Peoria features Halloween games like Zombie Cornhole, trick- or-treating, face painting, and food trucks. Stick around for movies on the lake, a bonfire, and general Halloween spirit!

  1. Buckeye Halloween Carnival: October 29th, 6:00pm-9:00pm

This mainstay event in local Halloween festivities has been running since 1940! Come to historic Downtown Buckeye for all sorts of Halloween fun, including the haunted “Maze of Mayhem.” And don’t miss the Jack-o-lantern carving contest and costume cat-walk!

  1. Apache Junction Halloween Festival: October 29th, 5:00pm-8:00pm

Last, but certainly not least, Apache Junction is holding a Halloween Festival to celebrate the good citizens that keep the city safe! There will be food, games, and a petting zoo. The highlight of the event, though, just might be the costume contests. Not just for humans, mind you, but also for your favorite canine companions!
