Shea Committed to Giving Back

by Shea Homes Arizona on November 17, 2017

Leukemia and Lymphoma SocietyThe Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is an organization Shea Homes® Arizona holds close to our hearts and this past weekend our family, friends, and co-workers gathered to celebrate and honor those touched by blood cancer at the Light the Night Walk in Phoenix, Arizona.

Leading up to the walk, members of the Shea Homes Arizona team raised funds to help support blood cancer research, with the goal of finding a cure. With the help of friends and so many of our loved ones, we raised over $11,500, surpassing our fundraising goal of $10,000 benefitting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Throughout the walk, survivors held up white lanterns, yellow lanterns were held high in memory of a loved one, while supporters of the cause held up red lanterns. This event is joined by over 1 million people across the United States and Canada in 200 inspirational evening walks annually and this year in Phoenix, there were over 7,000 registered walkers.

5 Ways to Prepare Your Home for Monsoon Season

by Shea Homes Arizona on June 16, 2017

Monsoon Preparation
Rain. Wind. Dust. Hail. Ready or not, Arizona monsoon season officially began June 15 and will be here until September 30. So if you live in the Phoenix area, now is the time to prepare. Here are our top five tips to get your home ready for the monsoons.

Check your roof

There’s nothing worse than waking up in the middle of the night to the “drip… drip… drip…” of a leaky roof. Before the monsoon rains come rolling in, inspect your roof or have a professional do it for you. Patch up any cracks or holes, and get recommendations on good roofers, just in case you need to call in the professionals.

Prepare plants and trees

Protect your plants (and your home!) by preparing in advance. Trim any big tree branches that could snap off and damage your roof. Stake down young trees that might not make it through an intense storm. And remember, the heavy monsoon rains that often come before the strong winds can loosen the soil and make trees more prone to becoming uprooted.

Evaluate your Home’s Drainage

If you’ve noticed drainage issues in your yard that cause pooling of water during a rain storm, make sure you have it taken care of before the monsoons hit. You may need to hire a landscaping company to provide a drainage solution that will keep your yard and home protected from possible flooding.

Install or Clean Out Rain Gutters and Downspouts

Rain gutters and downspouts are the best way to direct the rain that comes from monsoon microbursts or macrobursts away from your home. Don’t wait until it’s too late to make sure yours are ready to do their job and divert the rain away from your home’s foundation.

Clean out the Garage

Now is the perfect time to put the family to work and clean out that over-stuffed garage. Parking your car on the street or in the driveway could put it at risk during the monsoon storms since flying branches and falling trees are common occurrences when the wild weather comes to town. Make room in the garage for your car and keep it safe from flying objects, as well as hail, rain and wind.

Heroes Rewards

As summer vacation comes to a close, teachers are gearing up for another year of hard work. We want to thank Arizona teachers for their service by reminding them about the Heroes Reward program, which provides them with a 1% base price credit toward the purchase of a new Shea Home. This special offer is also available to active and retired military, active or retired police officers, and active or retired firefighters.

The Heroes Reward Program is just one small way we at Shea Homes® Arizona are able to recognize and thank our military, teachers, police officers and firefighters for all that they do to make our communities a better place to live and work.

The redemption process for the Shea Homes Heroes Reward Program is simple:

  1. Eligible active or retired military, teachers, police officers and firefighters print out a certificate, available here: http://bit.ly/HeroReward
  2. Participants fill out the form, and present it to their Shea Homes Community Representative, along with proof of current or previous employment.
  3. The 1% credit is applied toward the base price of a new Shea home (program not valid at Trilogy or Encanterra communities).

If you or someone you know qualifies for the Heroes Reward Program, we invite you to come tour one of our Shea Homes communities around the Valley and see for yourself what it means to “live the difference.”
