On Monday, we began our #ReadWithYourChild campaign, book drive and raffle here in Arizona! The campaign promotes the Read With Your Child 15 Minutes a Day program to support our passion in literacy and education at young ages. The campaign will also be to collect new or gently used children/youth books at the sales offices of every Shea Homes family division community across the Phoenix area. At the end of the drive on February 13th, the books collected will be donated to one deserving elementary school, Lowell Elementary, in the Grant Park area of Phoenix.


Literacy development begins in the first three years of life, and kindergarten through third grade is a critical time in the development of a child’s lifelong literacy. Spending just fifteen minutes reading with your child can better prepare them for their school years to come and even enjoy learning.

To engage the community offline as well, Shasta Pools will sponsor two “backyard family-style” BBQ’s where we will offer the public additional ways to donate books, lawn games, tables of food, music, arts and crafts, tours of the communities, an enjoyable community event overall, and much more. Here are the details of the community BBQs:

  • West Valley BBQ
    • Saturday, January 24th

  •  East Valley BBQ
    • Saturday, February 7th

How the raffle works:

  • For every new/gently used children’s or youth book donated, you get 1 raffle ticket (i.e. 5 books = 5 tickets). There is no limit to the number of books one can donate.
  • To get an extra 5 entries into the raffle, anyone who donates at least one book may take a selfie of themselves donating the book at the community sales office (or a sales representative can take a photo for you).
  • You must then post the photo on the @SheaHomesAZ Facebook page (www.facebook.com/sheahomesaz) and use the hashtag #ReadWithYourChild. These extra entries will be managed by the main office team. Only one photo per donator.

At the conclusion of the book drive, on Monday, February 16th, we will conduct separate prize drawings for the West Valley and East Valley. Each drawing/location has the same prizes and amounts. Entrants have pic2the opportunity to win one of the following:

  • $250 Amazon Gift Card
  • $100 Amazon Gift Card
  • $75 Amazon Gift Card
  • One of (3) $50 Amazon Gift Cards
