Last Minute Thanksgiving – Menu Ideas

by Shea Homes Northern California on November 19, 2012

Thanksgiving is this Thursday, and while some of you have been planning and preparing this meal for weeks, there are others who haven’t given it much thought yet. And that’s okay, you still have plenty of time to prepare for this festive meal.

First of all you, if you haven’t purchased your turkey yet, we’d suggest doing so today. If you’re only feeding a few people you can wait until the last minute, but if you need a large turkey (over 15lbs) it’s best to get it sooner than later. Here’s a guide to picking the turkey that is right for you.

Now the fun begins: choosing your menu. There are staple dishes that make Thanksgiving feel like… Thanksgiving. Remember, calories don’t exist on November 22nd this year, so make this a meal to remember.

To start, warm your guests with one of these decadent and festive cocktails:

New Amsterdam Toddy

Warm Cider and Rum Punch

Sometimes adding a twist to traditional dishes can liven up your Thanksgiving feast.

Candied Walnut Gorgonzola Salad

Sweet Potato Casserole

Pear, Prosciutto, Hazelnut Stuffing

Cranberry-Orange Sauce

Butternut Squash Gratin

 Green Bean Casserole

You’ll need to spend some time resting, watching football, or playing games before you move onto the dessert round, but saving room will be worth it with these treats – choose one or all three to prepare this year!

Pumpkin Pie with a Bonus

Add Maple Whipped Cream and Pumpkin-Seed Brittle to this Thanksgiving dessert staple

Pumpkin Mousse

Oatmeal-Nut Crunch Apple Pie

Whether there are 4 of you this Thanksgiving or 25, you can mix and match some of these recipes to make this an unforgettable Thanksgiving meal for your family. Remember, this is a time to be thankful, so don’t stress over details, look forward to the time you will spend with friends and family on this great holiday.

Happy Thanksgiving from Shea Homes!
