Making Your Home a Home for Your Pet

by Shea Homes Northern California on July 10, 2012

If you’re a pet person you know that they have a special place in our hearts. Whether you’re a dog person, a cat person or a gerbil person those special critters in our lives deserve a special place in our homes. Now, the majority of us don’t have the means or capabilities to devote a whole room in the house to our pet, but we can still make some adjustments to give these little guys a place to call home sweet home.

Some pets have a bed or crate they sleep in during the night. Spruce up the space with a little paint and stencils. Add paw prints or dog bones or perhaps their name to a spot on the wall. Don’t want to actually paint your walls? Why not paint their name onto a piece of treated wood and secure it to the wall above their bed?

Feeling like you want to do your part to save the earth? Why not recycle some of your unused household items for your pet? For example: turn an old suitcase into your pet’s new bed!

Every pet has its accessories and you don’t always want those accessories strewn about the house, especially when guests arrive. Why not make a DIY toy bin out of a basket and fabric? Or use this helpful video from Live Well Network.

Whatever you do to make your home more ‘homey’ for your pet, you can guarantee that they will love it. Plus, these extra additions can make great conversation pieces and even inspire your friends and family to do the same. What do you do to make your pet feel at home in your home?
