Virtual Tours Let You See Our Phoenix Models in 360° Online

by Shea Homes Arizona on June 22, 2018

It’s hot. That special Arizona cook-an-egg-on-the-sidewalk-don’t-touch-the-seatbelt hot. We get it. When it’s 115 out, it feels wrong to be anywhere that’s not your air-conditioned living room or beside the pool. That’s why Shea Homes® has put together a way for you to tour our model homes without leaving your house: 360 degree Virtual Tours.

Now available for Aperture, Emblem, and Origin at Gateway Quarter, you can take a stroll around all our stunning communities without leaving your desk or couch – every one of our 17 Shea Homes Arizona communities has at least one model available to tour online. Instead of studying floorplans and using your imagination, click and pan your way through these homes to get a real sense of space.
360 Degree View of Model HomesVirtual Tours are easy to find and intuitive to use. First, head over to our communities page and select the community you’re interested in. As you peruse the list of different homes, keep an eye out for this icon:IconThat means there is a Virtual Tour available for that floorplan. Click it, and the tour will open up in a new window (be sure you have Flash player installed and up to date). Now it’s as easy as clicking the floor to “walk” to a new spot, clicking and dragging to get a 360 degree look around, or you can even view a “dollhouse” image by clicking on the little white box near the arrows.

Prepare Your Home for Monsoon Season

by Shea Homes Arizona on June 15, 2018

Monsoon 2018

Rain. Wind. Hail. Haboobs. Ready or not, Arizona monsoon season has officially arrived, and will be here until September 30. While the temperature dips may be nice, all that inclement weather can bring some nasty surprises with it. So if you live in the Phoenix area, now is the time to prepare. Here are Shea Homes® top tips to get your home ready for the monsoons

Prepare plants and trees

Protect your plants (and your home!) by preparing in advance. Trim any big tree branches that could snap off and damage your roof. Stake down young trees that might not make it through an intense storm. And remember, the heavy monsoon rains that often come before the strong winds can loosen the soil and make trees more prone to becoming uprooted.

Evaluate your Home’s Drainage

If you’ve noticed drainage issues in your yard that cause pooling of water during a rain storm, make sure you have it taken care of before the monsoons hit. You may need to hire a landscaping company to provide a drainage solution that will keep your yard and home protected from possible flooding.

Install or Clean Out Rain Gutters and Downspouts

Rain gutters and downspouts are the best way to direct the rain that comes from monsoon microbursts or macrobursts away from your home. Don’t wait until it’s too late to make sure yours are ready to do their job and divert the rain away from your home’s foundation.

Clean out the Garage

If you’re the type to procrastinate your spring cleaning well beyond spring, now is the perfect time to put the family to work and clean out that over-stuffed garage. Parking your car on the street or in the driveway could put it at risk during the monsoon storms since flying branches and falling trees are common occurrences when the wild weather comes to town. Make room in the garage for your car and keep it safe from flying objects, as well as hail, rain and wind.

Adding a Swimming Pool to Your Home? Things You Should Know

by Shea Homes Arizona on May 18, 2018

Backyard Swimming PoolHave fun in the sun and stay cool by the pool! With that lovely extended spring behind us and the infamous Arizona summer on its way, Valley residents are pulling out their swimsuits and stocking up on sunscreen. Shea Homes® homeowners in communities like Recker Pointe and Ambition at Eastmark (and soon, 24 North) love the resort feel of their community pools, where neighbors can meet, play and barbecue together.

Many of our communities also offer the option of adding a swimming pool in the back yard. We chatted with Jim Pinson from Shasta Pools, Shea’s trusted resource for everything aquatic, to get the scoop on everything from construction to safety and maintenance. Shasta has been family-owned since 1966 and has been Arizona’s premier pool builder for decades.

While some homebuyers wait to build their pool until after closing, there are a few reasons to consider going for it right out of the gate.

Cool Down and Save with Summer Energy Efficiency Tips from APS

by Shea Homes Arizona on April 20, 2018

Summer in Arizona means siestas and Saturdays by the pool. For many Phoenix residents it also means sweat and rising energy bills… but it doesn’t have to! With a few easy tweaks, you can enjoy the cool comfort of modern air conditioning (invented in 1902 by the one day founder of Samsung, Willis Carrier, in case you were wondering) without the gut punch of the summer energy bill. APS® offers a few tips to keep you cool:
Energy Efficiency Tips from APS

  • Doctor Doctor: Cooling accounts for nearly half of your monthly energy bill in the hotter months, but it can easily skyrocket if your unit isn’t operating the way it should. Schedule regular yearly check-ups for you’re A/C unit to help prevent it from working harder than it has to.
  • You Spin Me Round: It’s time to wake up that ceiling fan that’s been hanging dormant since November. Turn on the fan and turn up the temperature: raising your thermostat by one degree can save 2 – 3% on energy cooling costs — set your thermostat to 79° and use fans to feel up to 5° cooler.
  • Carry on My Wayward Sun: The desert sun bakes your windows all day long. Plant low water use shade trees in front of south, east, or west facing windows to help keep sunlight from heating up your home in the summer months.
  • Take Me Home, Desert Roads: Don’t spend money to cool your home when you’re away at work all day! Program your thermostat to turn up the temperature when you are not home, or get a smart thermostat with “geofencing” that does this automatically by working with your smartphone.
  • Dancing in the Dark: Turn off unnecessary lights and appliances; they can add heat to your home. Unplugging appliances when you aren’t using them could help lower energy costs as well. TVs and toasters take up more power than you’d expect, even when you aren’t using them.

At Shea Homes®, we work to keep our new homes energy efficient from the start, which is why our ENERGY STAR® certified homes use up to 20-30% less energy than other non-certified homes. Through a combination of complete thermal enclosure systems, high efficiency ventilation, comprehensive water management systems, and energy-efficient appliances and lighting, together families that have purchased ENERGY STAR labeled homes save more than $350 million dollars each year on utility bills.
